Withhold your judgement.
“We call on the London bus company that has been booked to carry an advertising campaign (starting Monday 16th April) which asserts the power of therapy to change the sexual orientation of gay people to be dropped immediately.
The adverts - which read “gay! Post-gay, ex-gay and proud. Get over it” - are clearly homophobic, and have the potential incite prejudice and discrimination.
Additionally, the British Medical Association (2010) passed a motion condemning conversion therapy advocated in these adverts, stating that such methods were “discredited and harmful to those ‘treated’”. It has also been condemned by leading medical organisations including the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
In the past week, there has also been a request by the author of a study often used to support conversion therapy (Spitzer, 2001) to be withdrawn.
We also request that any employee of the bus company who refuses to drive the buses displaying these advertisements faces no disciplinary action as a result.
More info about the adverts can be found on the Guardian website: www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/apr/12/christian-anti-gay-ads-buses”
Is how LGBT friendly it is and how it challenges gender binaries and stereotypes about gay people.
There have been lots of gay characters ever since Todd Grimshaw set off the spark in the early 2000s and I love that all of the gay characters are completely individual and not defined by their sexuality. Yeah, you have the “camp” gay man in the form of Sean Tully and you also have Ken’s son, who battles with homophobia from his step-dad, you had Todd and his lover Karl, and the battle with coming out.
Moreover, the lesbian storyline was just brilliant - if not a bit overdue. This is because Sophie and Sian actively challenged the church and religion for criticising their sexualities. Now, for a soap, I think that is amazing. Such a large platform in which to get that message across.
Then you have Hayley, who is a transexual woman, shown as a completely ordinary, loving person. And recently, Mark, who is a cross-dresser, and his struggle for acceptance.
K, I’ll stop going on about how much I love Corrie now. But I do think it is amazing that such a popular and mainstream soap is speaking for the minorities and challenging things such as homophobia within the church.

is this a no more wire hangers joke or am I missing something?
Wire clothes hangers were used for home-abortions, when abortions were illegal. We’re not just throwing blind hatred at coat hangers.
